Going nuts for dog-friendly PistachioLand

PistachioLand is officially known as McGinns Pistachio Tree Ranch & Arena Blanca Winery and is located about 10-15 mins drive from the town of Alamogordo.

Its free to visit and has a large carpark on site as well as a large general store that has plenty of free samples to try. If you’re a savoury fan then you’ll love all of their delicious flavoured pistachios, and if you have more of a sweet tooth you’ll enjoy trying the different nut brittles etc.

In addition to food, you’ll also find lots of souveniers, homewares and giftware available in the shop and there is also wine tasting available on site. Best of all, the store is dog-friendly if your pup is well behaved and on leash (just watch them as there can be loose nuts on the floor!)

But its biggest claim to fame is for having the world’s biggest pistachio that is located just off the carpark and is one of those quirky roadside attractions you will definitely want a photo with!

Gotta love a quirky roadside ‘big’ thing!

They also have the option to take a dog-friendly tour through their pistachio orchard and vineyard, where well behaved dogs on leash are welcome to join you. The tours run at the top of each hour, are a reasonable $3 per person and take approx 20-30 mins.

You also can’t leave PistachioLand without having a refreshing cup of pistachio ice-cream which you can purchase from the outdoor counter. But your dog won’t miss out as they also have dog-friendly pup cups (whipped cream) available (that Beatle enjoyed a little too much...) There is plenty of seating outside and shade for you and your dog to enjoy your cool snack.

Beats really enjoyed her pup cup….
